Initial consult

Length: 1.5hrs long

Location: in person or telehealth.

Consult focus: is guided by what you prioritised in the booking form.

Following the initial consult: I will look at your case in more depth and develop the initial treatment plan which will be emailed to you and stored in your Better app no later than 7 days. If a prescription is required this will also be emailed. You order and pay for your prescription directly through the supplier online. This might take up to 7 to 10 days to arrive in the post.

In between consults

Identifying disease drivers: several tools, outlined below, are utilised to better understand the disease process.

Disease Mapping: thought bubbles about processes taking place (eg chronic systemic inflammation) are sequenced and given hierarchies in visual form (the mind map). This helps clarify factors driving dysfunction and in what direction.

A Timeline: notable medical, drug, dietary, mental, physical, or environmental ‘events’ are placed in a timeline, from birth to the present day. A simple tool that effectively highlights triggers or important time points that may otherwise be missed.

Pattern recognition: to understand what your normal looks like, versus emerging dysfunctional patterns, past and current laboratory tests are put in table form for comparison.

Reference ranges for optimal health: test results are compared against reference ranges that are considered optimal (by international bodies) for healthy people of your particular age or gender. They are not necessarily the ranges that come by default with the test, which is commonly what ‘normal’ looks like in the community but not necessarily healthy.

Interaction checker: to reduce the risk of adverse reactions, the Natural Medicines database is used to check for supplement-drug interactions.

Research: the most recent peer-reviewed papers are referred to for knowledge gaps regarding any therapeutic considerations or disease processes.

Testing: if warranted other pathology or genetic testing may be advised.

Follow-up from the initial consult

Length: follow-up consults are usually between 30 to 45 minutes long.

Treatment review: together we review your response to treatment and make adjustments as needed.

Better app for your convenience: the treatment plan, bookings, and extra resources, along with any other relevant documents and/or instructions, are easily accessed via your Better app profile.
